book list #23 - a history of Ms.

I read Inside Ms.: 25 Years of the Magazine and the Feminist Movement while preparing/researching for this piece.

I'm not going to lie, I don't do this for all my stories. More often than not, there is not enough time to do so, but also, I am not always this interested, or invested. In this case, I was both.

[I've talked about my history with feminism before, so I won't go into it again here]

Reading about the history of Ms. was really interesting, and Thom's style of writing made it such that it felt more like reading a really long article than anything else. I love that this magazine began in the magazine I work for. I love reading about their battles with advertisers. I love that all these talented, powerful women came together and worked insane hours and put out an incredibly important product.

You know that random dinner party conversation where people ask which decade you'd want to go back to?My answer is almost always late 60's, early 70's for the rise of feminism. I love the idea that I could have/would have worked for Ms. Magazine.

Obviously, this is a book for a very specific reader, and not really general interest, but I still highly recommend it.
