book list #25 - peace meals
For my birthday, I was gifted Peace Meals by my dear friend Khurram.
It took me a really long time to get through. Not because I wasn't enjoying it - I did really enjoy it. It took a long time because she wrote it in a way that forced the reader to digest the book slowly (no pun intended). Reading the book was a lot like having a meal in a foreign country - I was forced to take my time, I was made to read slowly. Reading slowly is not my strong suit.
Each story in Peace Meals tells a part of Anna Badkehn's life as a journalist. The things that she takes from each place are obviously much larger than recipes, and meals, but ultimately that is what she uses as her framework to tell her story.
It's an enjoyable book with ambitious recipes, mouth-watering, occasionally too long, food descriptions, and sweet tales of friendships.
