book list #27 - blue nights
I read The Year of Magical Thinking at least once a year. For me, it's one of the strongest, most powerful books I've ever read. Despite the somber subject matter, I find it to be one of my book "safety blankets" (that topic is for another day)
Needless to say, I had extremely high expectations of Blue Nights.
The writing was impeccable. I love Didion's form, but overall, I found the story to lack the same emotional depth of The Year of Magical Thinking. Although the subject matter was just as serious and heavy, I just didn't feel it as much. It did not strike the same emotional chords.
